Italian Lakes – pre tour & day 1
Day 1
PRE-TOUR (optional)
THE MEETING POINT
29th May
We’ll arrange your channel tunnel crossing at a time that suits you and your journey in the UK. You can either take an early crossing on the first day of the tour, or for a more relaxed start to your holiday you can take the crossing the day/evening before and spend the evening with us in our hotel just 10 minutes drive from the terminal in Calais. Most of our customers pick this option.
Day 1
DAY 1
FIRST JOURNEY
30th May
~300 miles, 5-6 hours driving time
After our tour briefing and issuing the sat-navs and radios, our first day on the road will largely be about munching kilometres. We’ll use the efficient French motorway network to travel south from Calais, heading to our first hotel situated in the beautiful Alsace wine region of France. There will be a group meal at our hotel — a great chance to get to know your fellow travellers.
Italian Lakes – day 2 & 3
Day 1
DAY 2
BLACK FOREST & LAKE CONSTANCE
31st May
~210 miles of driving
We leave the Alsace vineyards behind and head east for an exciting drive across the heart of the Black Forest. After carving through the winding roads of the dense German woodland, we’ll meet the shores of Lake Constance and cruise above its scenic coastline to reach our hotel for the evening.
Day 1
DAY 3
AUSTRIAN HIGH ROADS
1st June
~300 miles, 5-6 hours driving time
Today’s route takes us south into the Alps. We’ll leave Lake Constance and drive over one of Austria’s most famous roads, passing a sunken bell tower and winding through the apple orchards of South Tyrol. By the afternoon, we will swap the alpine scenery for the Mediterranean olive groves of Lake Garda, checking into our hotel for a three-night stay.
Italian Lakes – day 4 – 6
Day 1
DAY 4/5
FREE DAYS
2nd & 3rd June
~260 miles, 3-4 hours driving time
We have two full days near Lake Garda to spend how you wish. We’ll be running morning drive tours in the mountains on both days with the opportunity to branch off and visit lakeside towns or head back to the cool of the hotel pool. Day trips to Verona or Venice are highly recommended, or you could head south to visit the Ferrari or Pagani museums near Modena.
Day 1
DAY 6
THREE LAKES & A PASS
4th June
~300 miles, 5-6 hours driving time
Today we transit from Lake Garda—the most easterly of the Italian Lakes—over to the western lakes. We’ve got a cracking route that takes us over one of the Italian Alps Passes, skirting Lake Como and Lake Lugano before we arrive at our new hotel nestled between Lakes Lugano and Maggiore. Time to unpack your bags for another three-night stay.
Italian Lakes – day 7 – 9
Day 1
DAY 7/8
FREE DAYS
5th & 6th June

The next two days are for you to decide what you would like to do. We’ll be leading morning driving routes taking in the best local scenery. Day 1
DAY 9
THE ITALIAN JOB
7th June
~300 miles, 5-6 hours driving time
After a morning cruise out of the western lakes and through the Aosta region, we’ll ascend the spectacular Col du Grand-Saint Bernard Pass, crossing briefly into Switzerland. This is the iconic filming location for the opening sequence of the 1969 film The Italian Job. From the pass, we’ll descend into the Northern French Alps to reach our hotel in Annecy.
This morning we’ll make our way back north to Calais for our channel crossings in the afternoon. If you have a long journey ahead of you in the UK, we recommend organising an extra night’s stay either near Calais or Folkestone.
